In Portugal the UNESCO Creative Cities Network includes 9 cities Barcelos and Caldas da Rainha (crafts and popular arts); Covilhã (design); Santa Maria da Feira (gastronomy); Óbidos (literature); Braga (digital arts); Idanha-a-Nova, Amarante and Leiria (music), brings together 295 cities worldwide, representing 90 countries.

There are 59 cities that belong to the "Handicrafts and Folk Arts" category, of which 10 are linked to embroidery.
