The municipality of Castelo Branco promotes, from the 12th to the 15th, the 1st International Meeting of Creative Cities and Sustainable Development, in the scope of its candidacy to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
On those dates, the Contemporary Culture Center receives writers, historians, journalists, politicians and specialists from all over the world (Spain, United States of America, Cape Verde, Brazil, Mexico, Morocco and Togo) to think about the future with creativity as the basis for everything”, said, in a communiqué sent to Lusa news agency, the Castelo Branco Chamber.
The municipality pointed out that the meeting is part of its candidacy to the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) Creative Cities Network, in the Handicraft and Popular Arts category, with the Castelo Branco Embroidery.
The guest country for this first edition is Ukraine, where weaving was an important craft for every family.
“Castelo Branco’s candidacy to UNESCO’s creative cities with embroidery is much richer with the discussion around what is already being implemented in other markets and places around the globe,” reads the note.
For four days, Castelo Branco will be at the epicenter of UNESCO’s creative cities before, in June, submitting the embroidery candidacy to the network in the category of Handicrafts and Popular Arts.
With characteristics that make it unique and distinctive among Portuguese embroidery, the embroidery of Castelo Branco fights for its recognition at a global level.
